November 14, 2018 Content Manager Training

This Training included the status of the conversion, a review of June’s Training including the methodology, standard templates, club website requirements, and navigating in the Divi Theme.  We had a great turnout and I hope everyone took away some additional knowledge and excitement for maintaining your club’s website.

Watch the Events Calendar for additional training opportunities in the new year!

WordPress errors when updating Pages, Posts, Events

11/5/2018 Update…

Our site administrator is still looking into the issues that have developed recently with WordPress.

TIP –  If you are in a page, post or event and your scroll bar has gone away try (1) opening a module and closing it or (2) “saving as draft” if entering an event without using the Divi Builder.

Again, thank you for your patience as we continue to work through this issue.

Are you getting this error?

Multiple clubs have reported issues when trying to add/edit information on their club’s website. If you too are having issues please submit a ticket in the system.  If you are unaware of how to do this please view the “Important Notice” by clicking the button below.

I have notified our site administrator and he is working on the issue.  There has been a conflict that is causing errors when trying to update our websites.  Club Content Managers have reported (and I have experienced) issues with the following:

  • Unable to edit/update a page or post
  • Unable to to enter or update events
  • No scroll bar in a page, post or event
    • Helpful hint… try opening and closing (x out) any module and that should restore your scroll bar

WordPress is the content management system we use to manage the Club Websites.  They are always updating their system and at times our site administrator may have to apply patches they push out for changes that have caused issues with users such as ourselves.  The most recent change they have made is causing a conflict with the Divi Theme – even on the last few sites that have not yet been converted to Divi.

As always with technology there are always changes – mostly for the betterment of the users – but on occasion there are issues along the way and patches need to be applied.  We understand your frustration but please be patient and let us know with a ticket if you are experiencing an issue, where in the system you are having the problem and do include a telephone number if you can.  If you have something that is timely and needs to be update quickly please let us know and we will try to assist you.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this issue.

Club Officer page requirement has been removed by the Rec Centers

Club Officer page requirement has been removed by the Rec Centers.  The Club Officers have been notified by email that the “Club Officers” listing requirements on club websites has been removed.   Clubs may retain a listing of Club Officers on their websites if they choose but it is strongly suggested that they do not have telephone numbers and email addresses listed due to the recent email scams.

Please note that a Club Contact and Club Bylaws are still required.  If a club chooses to omit the listing of club officers then the “Officers & Bylaws” page can be renamed to “Club Contact & Bylaws” with the Club Contact phone number added.

If a club has a ‘generic’ email address and a club phone number those can be listed in the blue secondary header (header is a required item) and at conversion if a club has such it has been added.

HTTP ERROR 500

If you are receiving the HTTP ERROR 500 when on your club’s website please try the following:

  • Reload the web page. You can do that by clicking the refresh/reload button or trying the URL again from the address bar.  Trying the page again will often be successful.
  • Clear your browser’s cache. If there’s a problem with the cached version of the page you’re viewing, it could be causing HTTP 500 issues.
  • Delete your browser’s cookies. Some 500 Internal Server Error issues can be corrected by deleting the cookies associated with the site you’re getting the error on.
  • Come back later. Unfortunately, at this point, the 500 Internal Server Error is no doubt a problem outside of your control that will eventually get fixed.

Internal server errors (error 500) are often caused by plugin or theme function conflicts or the amount of traffic, i.e., a lot of users signed in at same time trying to update their club websites.

If you have tried the above and continue to experience issues that are preventing you from updating your club’s website please submit a ticket.
